Super Saturday Feb 13th, 2010

Virginia Association of Student Financial Aid Administrators' (VASFAA)  Super Saturday, is scheduled for Saturday, February 13, 10:00AM - 2:00PM. This is a day when financial aid professional across the state offer FREE assistance to students and parents in completing the FAFSA on-line. Two financial aid 101 workshops are also held for the parents of younger students who want to understand the federal and state financial aid process. A $100 book scholarship is awarded to one student at each site who comes out to get help completing the FAFSA. This year VASFAA is proud to announce that there are 32 Super Saturday sites. Information on the sites are available on the VASFAA website - www.vasfaa.org  The closest site to MVHS is Massaponax HS. Contact Judy Ladd at jladd@spotsylvania.k12.va.us for more information.

SAT Prep through Revolutions Prep

Need to prep for the SAT? Revolution Prep is offering comprehensive 6-week SAT prep courses near Mountain View High School.

March SAT Prep Class -Course begins on January 30th and leads up to the March 13th SAT exam

May SAT Prep Class-Course begins on March 13th and leads up to the May 1st SAT exam

June SAT Prep Class-Course begins on April 24th and leads up to the June 5th SAT exam

The cost of the group course is $499. Need-based scholarships are available for ANY student in need. Rising Freshman Orientation Night-postponed
We would like to invite any student who will be attending Mountain View High School next year as a freshman and their parents to attend our Rising Freshman Orientation Night on February 24th from 7-8:30pm in the Auditorium.   
Financial Aid Workshops


Attention College Bound Students-The University of Mary Washington will be hosting financial aid workshops during the month of January to help assist any college bound student with financial aid forms/questions. This workshop is for all college bound students, not just those planning to attend the University of Mary Washington. Interested in a career in Law Enforcement?

Attend Law Enforcement Career Day on March 26th from 9am - 1 pm at the Locust Grove Campus of Germanna Community College.  Careers addressed will include police/sheriffs, corrections, security companies, state police, law enforcement training academies, FBI & Secret Service.  Universities that offer the administration of justice four year degree will also be present. Senior Transcript Deadline
Attention seniors! Please remember that transcript requests are due to counseling TWO WEEKS prior to the college application deadline. It is ok to still be working on your application when you submit your transcript request. Be sure to fill out the transcript request form completely, attach the secondary school report, bring $4 (check or exact change).

HW Request Policy
MVHS Homework Request Policy
Homework will be gathered only if you will be out for an extended absence of five or more consecutive days, and we request 24 hour notice prior to pick up.
 
If your student will be out five or less days:
1. Check your teacher's school fusion website! Most teachers post homework, class notes, etc on their Fusion page.
2.   Email with your classroom teachers to see what you missed that day, and their recommended timeline for making it up. Arrange with the teacher to stay for tutoring if necessary
 
If you know you will be absent ahead of time for a family trip, college visit, extended medical reasons such as surgery, etc: Please pick up a "pre-arranged absence form" from the Main Office, complete it and distribute to all of your teachers ahead of time. This way you can take your anticipated homework with you on your trip.

AP Exam Fees are due!
If you are taking an AP Course, your exam fees are now due. Please bring cash, check or money order made out to MVHS for $86 per exam to your AP Teacher. Exams are mandatory.
ASVAB
If you took the ASVAB on Nov 18th, scores will be available  & interpreted on December

17th at 1pm in the auditorium. This is a date & time change. If you travel for 4th block, please remain at MVHS on that day.

SAT Testing
When you sign up for the SAT test online, be sure to sign up for SAT I - the Reasoning Test. This is the standard college admissions test you need to take. SAT II are individual subject tests, and are only required for certain college applications. You may sign up at www.collegeboard.com
Changes to Contact Information
If your home, cell or work phone numbers, or your home address have changed , please inform the counseling center so that we have the most up to date information. If your address has changed, you will need to bring in proof of address, such as a copy of your mortgage/lease or a utility bill

Academic Letters
Mountain View High School awards academic letters to those students who earn a cumulative gpa of 3.5 or higher. The Academic Awards Ceremony is held each fall. Sophomores receive certificates and encouragement to continue their academic achievement. Juniors receive their academic letter, and seniors receive a bar for their academic letter.
